    I got my spare to work, first I cleaned the contacts and the inside buttons and it did lock but it wouldn't unlock so I put a piece of tin foil just on the unlock one and that cured it.

    Well holy crap, this actually worked!!! 2006 Malibu factory command start worked one last time, then all buttons quit on the entire fob? Changed the battery nothing., was going to tear into fuse panel, re-set ecu, check hood pin latch etc etc. saw this video and laughed thinking this can’t be it, but I’ll give it try? 😂😂👌 Instantly entire fob works perfectly again. I just used a hole punch to make perfect circles of foil and never glued them in, just placed them under pins of each rubber button pin and closed it up. Thanx man!!!

    it worked! many thanks. I only cared about the trunk opening because it has no key. I carefully trimmed a piece of aluminum foil that fits snugly in its hollow without glue. as long as it works, I'll leave it like that. I'll use glue if necessary.

      update: the fix is holding up well, so i did the same thing to the second fob that had deteriorated performance and it works better now. i have not used any glue. i just make sure that the piece of aluminum fits in snugly.

    I have my doubts about the aluminum foil trick, but if it works, great! HOWEVER, I fixed both my fobs, which I was ready to throw away. Like Erich, the hardest part is getting the fob open. I had replaced the battery in both fobs, to no avail. However, Erich made me consider another source for the problem...dirt/debris/residue! After 13 year, the push button's rubber had worn into electrical contacts. I used rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab to remove the rubber residue on both the electrical contact and the push button rubber. BAM, every button was back like new. Try the simple cleaning trick before permanently altering the fob with adhesive and aluminum. Thanks Erich for the idea.

    Never could understand why the lock button alone just up and stopped working but then I found this video and originally thought I had a shorted fob cause it was all nasty. Nope just the rubber contact wore out

    That's hilarious! All you need to do is take a pencil eraser and "erase" the oxidation off of the contacts. This is much easier and you can save your aluminum foil to protect your brain from those evil alien radio waves! 😂

    Hey all, alittle late to the game! I put the aluminum foil in at it worked! But then it kept making the unlocking sound and wouldn't stop untill i took the foil off? Is this because I didn't glue the foil? (I wanted to see if that was the issue)

    • @erichschroeter
      @erichschroeter 2 года назад

      Ya, if the foil is making contact with the circuit, it is competing the circuit and will keep the button active.
